NTRODUCTION The Master of Science in “Mechanics of Materials and Structures” (MMS) of the Universitat de Girona – UdG (Spain) is an official Master’s degree of the European Higher Education Area. The master MMS is aimed at students who wish to develop their knowledge and skills in the field of the mechanical behaviour of materials and structures. The objective of MMS is to link the current knowledge of theories of the behaviour of materials with the most innovative techniques in structural engineering. With the intention of helping in the selection of the optional subjects (Phase 2), the master is organized in four different Modules. However, it is worth mentioning that the student is free of selecting any desired optional subject and at the end of the master, no additional specialization diploma is awarded. These Modules are: Composites Structures Solid Mechanics Computation Mechanical Design The syllabus of each Module of the Master in Mechanics of Materials and Structures (Composites, Structures, Solid Mechanics, Computation Mechanical Design) places special emphasis on computational techniques, mechanics of materials, advanced structural design, experimental techniques and mechanical optimisation.

The MMS Master provides the student with the necessary skills to take up leading roles in analysis, design, research, and development of structures with applicability in a variety of sectors (aerospace, race sport, marine, sports goods, building, civil, mechanical or windturbine engineering). The organizer of the MMS Master, the research group AMADE – “Analysis and Advanced Materials for Structural Design” from the University of Girona, keeps collaborations with many different companies and centres, such: COMPOXI, EURECAT, LEITAT, BELLAPART, AERNNOVA, AIRBUS, APPLUS, GAMESA, GESTAMP, among others. Most of the MMS teachers are researchers of AMADE research group, with a solid background in structural engineering and with internationally recognized careers in research related with developing tools for the analysis of advanced structures. There is the possibility for the MMS Master students to develop their Master’s Final Projects on an industrial context. AMADE receives many requests from companies and research centres looking for candidates to job vacancies with a solid background on Mechanics of Materials and Structures. AMADE informs about these vacancies to the MMS students of the corresponding academic course. The MMS master course also prepares you to indicate your PhD studies in the areas of specialization of the AMADE research group.
